通常来说，个体名词和集体名词是可数名词，物质名词和抽象
名词是不可数名词。而在某些特殊情况下，有些不可数名词又可转化
为可数名词。下面仅就这些特殊情况做以说明。
1. 少数名词既可用做不可数名词,又可用做可数名词,但意义有所不同.如:
如: 1) Word came that he was admitted in Tsing Hua university. 消息传来他考上了清华大学. 注: word当消息讲时,前不需加冠词.
2) You should do more exercise. Don’t always sit at the desk,
doing exercises. 你应该多做锻炼.不要老是坐在桌子旁, 做习题
2.有些物质名词表示具体东西时,可以视为可数名词.如:
a glass (一个玻璃杯) a rubber (一块橡皮) an iron (一把熨斗) woods (树林) waters (水域) sands (沙滩) grasses (草地) 如: Some cows are feeding on grasses, eating grass. 牛在草地上吃草.
3. 抽象名词表示种类时,可转化为可数名词 1) ---Does the medicine have effect on you? ---Yes, it has a good effect(一种好的效果) on me. 2) It doesn’t need effort.
Their efforts (各种努力 )were in vain.
4. 有些抽象名词当表示具体的人或物,可视为可数名词.这些抽象名词有:
pleasure(愉快), honor(荣誉), shame(羞愧), disappointment(失望), pity(遗憾), success(成功), failure(失败), danger(危险), help(帮助)等.
如: The meeting is a success.
What a pleasant surprise he bought us.
5.有些抽象名词表示 “一份\一顿\一阵\一场等”时,可转化为可数名词.如: three coffees (三份咖啡)
a good supper a heavy rain\snow\storm a strong wind 6. 有些不可数名词当表示程度 (一点;一些;某部分内容…)时, 常用a\an 修饰.如:
a knowledge of English (懂点英语) an understanding of law (懂点法律) a history of 20 years a time of 3 years
a population of 500 million a length\distance of 50 meters 还要注意一些永远不可数的名词:
news(消息;新闻) information(信息) advice(建议) fun(有趣) furniture (家具) equipment(设备) progress(进步)
