Chicago

Lu Xiumei 2013010498

The 1920s, Jazz Age, was a time full of anxiety and restlessness which was the creating background of the famous film Chicago. It’s also a musical, so dances and songs will come to our eyes time and again. However, there were murder, love, betrayal, and competition beneath the so-called happy musical scenes. Thus the sharp contrast between the light flicking stage and the cold dark jail,I think, is one of the reasons why Chicago became a hit at that time.

What impresses me most is the injustice in the film. Yes, the lawyer Billy was so clever and eloquent that he never lost a case. Therefore he became very famous in the whole Chicago and became the pet of all female prisoners. But the way Billyrose to fame was what I despise. He asked for high reward for dealing with a case. He turned the facts upside down by making up stories for murderers so as to persuade the media and the public to believe their innocence. It was extremely ridiculous in one of the musicals that Billy controlled not only Roxie but also the media. Those journalists were just like puppets under control. And the public was influenced by the media. Therefore the injustice in Chicago lies not only in deceitful lawyers but in the media which couldn’t tell right from wrong. That’s why true murderers would not be brought to justice while the innocent got the unjust judgment.

Become Jane Austen

When I see the actress who plays the role of Jane Austen, I am surprised that she has almost the same appearance as Elizabeth and Scarlett (Gone with the wind) in my heart. She is polite、independent and intelligent.

Jane‟s life is a little unfortunate. She is on behalf of those women who ask for freedom of marriage and want to get out of the restraints to women. She elopes with Mr. Thomas Lefroy twice but finally she failed for some reasons. In the end, Jane Austen becomes a famous writer without marriage and Lefroy has a successful career as a lawyer and become Lord Chief Justice of Ireland and he names his eldest daughter Jane. I‟m pity for Jane as she can only give the characters in her novels a happy end.

Jane Bennet‟s life is what Jane Austen dreams of. She hopes that she can marry with who she loves instead of the money. That Mr. Bingley and Jane fall in love with each other in the first sight in the ball reflects what Jane Austen feels when she joins the second ball of Lady Gresham and spends time with Lefroy. It‟s a beautiful wish of herself and Lefroy. In addition, Elizabeth and

Darcy quite represent the fate of Jane and Lefroy except Elizabeth and Darcy have a happy ending. Elizabeth thinks Darcy is very haughty and disagreement, which is the similar to Jane‟s

dissatisfied with Lefroy at the beginning. But finally Elizabeth recognizes Darcy and gets married. On the contrary, Jane doesn‟t marry with Lefroy as he has heavy responsibilities for his family and friends so he needs to inherit his uncle‟s property.【英文影评】

The movie explains why some character‟s personality is so in the novels. It makes Pride And Prejudice interesting to me, and I think I really get a motivation to read the novel.【英文影评】

Bolt

Bolt is a dog who thinks everything in his film world is true, and in the film he has super strength. He never doubts he is a common dog and he trusts that he is born with a birthmark in the shape of a lightning bolt. He has the responsibility to protect Penny, his person in the movie, and fight with evil.

One day, Penny has a DVD release junket. So she lefts Bolt along in the house. When a

worker inspects some scene of the movie where there are Penny‟s crying for help. And it surprises Bolt and makes he misunderstand that Penny is cached by green eye man. So, Bolt begins his adventure for saving Penny from evil. In the adventure, Bolt meets Mittens, a cat experiencing a miserable career as actress and knowing lots, Rhino, a hamster and Bolt‟s fan. With the help of Mittens, Bolt realizes that he isn‟t the thunder Bolt---- the super dog. He knows that he is just a dog that will be hungry and blooding. The process of awareness is crazy and heartbroken. Finally, Bolt saves Penny in the fire. And they choose to quit filming, and live together.

It‟s rough to become a hero. But what is much more difficult is to accept the reverse from a

hero to a ordinary people. When Bolt loses his heart as he understands he is just a common dog and he thinks he can do nothing successfully, Rhino says to him:

” Because all over this planet, there are animals who feel like they can‟t. Like a little hamster that once spent his days in an RV park, dreaming of the day when he, too, would save a little girl from danger and be told, “You did it. You did it, Rhino. You saved the day.”

“They need a hero, Bolt. Someone who, no matter what the odds, will do what‟s right.” “They need a hero to tell them that sometimes the impossible can become possible if you‟re awesome!”

Bolt repays:” Well, you‟re right about one thing, Rhino .Mittens does need a hero, and I guess I„ll have to do.

I think what Rhino says expresses the strength of heroes. Heroes give their ordinary partners dreams about them being heroes. Just as the Jim Braddock, a character in Cinderella Man.

Except the feel above, there are much thought contained in the movie. Though Bolt is just a cartoon, in my opinion, it is more meaningful than many so-called great film works.

CNN

In today’s CNN Student News, the friction between china and Japan around the Diao Yu Island was mentioned in the “shout out” column. It introduced the location、areas、environment and natural resources of the island and present situation in the East China Sea.

The news remains me of where the problem comes from and what attitudes we should hold on. Besides the official announcement and historic problem, in my opinion, the dispute is produced in the recent 40 years.

In 1972, USA gave island back to Japan which had been in the charge of America before, and USA illegally added Diao Yu Island into the list. They may want to create a gap between China and Japan so that Japan will ask for their help which means that they can have reasonable excuse backing to this area----- the West Pacific. And at that time, Chinese must have against the convention, but with the limited national force, china government had to put the territory confliction aside and boost the cooperation with Japan and USA. The incident was ended. In about 1986, Japan built a lighthouse an the island and sent a Japan national flag to it. Chinese people are very angry about their illegal behaviors, so, a lot of demonstration took place in China. However, China was still not strong enough. We could only express our dissatisfactions while we can do nothing.

Today, China is much stronger than before, so we needn‟t tolerate all the defiance from Japan, we should do something to protect our territory safety. Our compromising in the past gives Japan many proofs that can prove the island belongs to them. So, this time, we have to get Diao Yu Island back completely, otherwise, in the next time, Japan government will say:” The Senkaku Island belongs to the state, its name is Japan!”

Wang Li 2015035202Z

Spike Jonze ,the director of Her,profoundly revelated the human loneliness and desire in a perspective of the future. Many circumstances will make us feel lonely:living in a strange city, just breaking up with our lovers, when insomnia can not find someone to talk to ,and so on.But the deepest loneliness,as Somerset Maugham put it,is that you have a genuine desire to put on the words of people, both of you can communicate to each other dispelling the darkness, provide warmth, comfort the soul, but you seem to never find such a people.

My interpretation of Samantha is another self.Whether she so humorous,or understanding, she is just an intelligence products, who get information about all of our information through communication with us,consisting of one of our own and to care for themselves. But Theodor was again and again toward the abyss of confusion.I think the film is probably the most shocking images of the minute dark bar,the most realistic sex scenes.Love needs flesh. If no touch and caress ,more languages are zero. But the body also has not irreplaceable. That is why Samantha find a girl to replace her flesh, and Theodor can not generate excitement for that girl. The flesh must be your loved one deity. No sex love not continue.

If there is such a person just like Samantha ,to understand all your feelings, gentle, funny, interlligent, considerate,do you believe that she is the real in your world? I do not believe. So,Samantha can not only be artificial intelligence, but a lone substitute. We must be brave to face reality and loneliness.

Review of “Outsourced”

“Outsourced” is a typical fish-out-of-water tale about a young American telemarketer who learns that his job is being shipped overseas. Todd Anderson (Josh Hamilton) spends his days managing a customer call center in Seattle until his job, along with those of the entire office, are outsourced to India. Todd rejects but when his boss informs him that quitting would mean losing his stock options, he has to go to train his Indian replacement Puro (Asif Basra).

Out of constant cultural misunderstandings, Todd (Josh Hamilton) is frustrated with everything in India. He eats food by using left hand which is taboo in India. Left hand is considered as dirty hand, which is used for clean something. That’s why Todd (Josh Hamilton) can’t find toilet paper in washroom. It is quite different from America. Also Todd (Josh Hamilton) sees the personal questions, which asked by the hostess, as an embarrassing invasion of his privacy. She questions Todd during his classes, tells him he needs to know more about India. Because of cultural diversity, Todd (Josh Hamilton) has difficulty making the call center employees understand what their American customers expect. In order to get the length of a call down to six minutes, Todd (Josh Hamilton) teaches the Indian employees to speak in American way. While an employee Asha (Ayesha Dharker) questions Todd (Josh Hamilton) during his classes, tells him he needs to know more about India. She becomes his

teacher on such mysteries as Kali, the goddess of destruction ("Sometimes it is good to destroy. Then things can start again.") Todd (Josh Hamilton) also shows Asha (Ayesha Dharker) the American value and offers her the job of assisting Puro (Asif Basra) when Todd (Josh Hamilton) leaves. “Asha can do anything.” It strengthen Asha (Ayesha Dharker)’s belief to be an independent modern woman. Todd realizes that he too has a lot to learn - not only about India and America, but about himself. He soon discovers that being outsourced may be the best thing that ever happened to him.

“Outsourced” is a modern day comedy of cross-cultural conflict and romance. It is a film bursting with affection for its characters and for India. It is about people learning to really see one another. It has a fundamental sweetness and innocence.

英文影评 第五篇_窈窕淑女英文影评

My favorite character in the My Fair lady

Seeing the movie, I appreciate Eliza better. Eliza Doolittle, a main character of this film, a poor flower girl and a beautiful young lady. She is a girl with happiness, even the place she lived is dirty and crowd, she never let her smile slipped out from her face. She has a dream in which a warm house with her lover and a lot of chocolates to eat. From Eliza, I can learn something good qualities.

The film shows the flower girl came across an English Linguistic professor----Henry Higgins, another main character of the film who is a typical English wealthy and defiant bachelor. He regards marriage as the most boring and troublesome thing in the world. Eliza became the bet goal of the Higgins and his friends actually. Higgins decides to improve Eliza’s cockney accent and train her to be an elegant lady. Through clever phrases such as ‘the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain’, Eliza slowly develops into a linguistically talented woman. To complete the transformation, she is given new clothes and a new look in hopes that she can pass for a refined lady.

I think the Pygmalion effect is reflected that the professor hope the flower girl turn into a lady. Actually, the flower girl really become a lady. Eliza knows the chance that is all her hope and hope will be a great motivation. So she never complained for her difficulties and under self-esteem, but still leaded a happy and confident life. Thus in the

process of we seeking for our aims, as long as we pay enough efforts and take a positive attitude in the face of any difficulties, our dream must come true one day. Why I choose Elisa as my favorite character? Most importantly is her quality. No matter poor she is, she still holds a confidence. She also catches the chance in time and never give up. Finally, she turn into a fair lady.

英文影评 第六篇_风雨哈佛路英语影评 A Film Review of Homeless to Harvard

A Film Review of Homeless to Harvard

Based on a true story that a girl who lead a poor and unfortunate life was admitted to the Harvard by means of her determination and hard working,”Homeless to Harvard” is a very inspiring, meaningful andtouching film played in 2003.The movie shoot by Peter Levin, and this is his most successful work in hisdirector career.

Personally, in this movie, the most impressive part is when the leading role Liz visited the Harvard, looking at those college students who looked happy and hopeful, she thought about her past life and the unknown future. At that time, she made up her mind to try her best to become the one here and become a real new person, and she knew that” I just need a chance.”We can even feel the desire of changing lit up her mind, and gave me endless strength in her eyes. After that, she never lost her aim under poverty and helpless, as brave as she could be, Liz is the strongest girl in Harvard.

In the film, the statement of Liz Murray promotes thedevelopment of plotof the film, her life before she went to the Harvard is shown in flashback. And this two methods made the film more Persuasive and vivid. When she reached her destination, no one can deny that she deserve it, she deserve the Harvard because of her unmovable faith.

英文影评 第七篇_front of the class英语影评

The movie is adapted from a real story. A man called Brad Cohen was born disabled, but he never gave up pursuing a teaching career. Nevertheless, the reality was always cruel. He tried his best to find a job, but he was always refused. At the same time, he also felt disappointed. However, Brad was an optimistic man. He believed that he would grow out of the problems and be normal like anyone else. Fortunately, he got an opportunity from a school to teach the second grade for one year.

The story was really inspiring. I think the most important reason why Cohen was so energetic and optimistic was that he accepted the reality. He never deceived himself and didn’t expect the changes of external environment. Instead of focusing on those negative things, he focused on how to cope with them creatively. He chose to pursue a beautiful future rather than get himself trapped in the past full of mud and self-pitying.

As a result, we can learn constancy, determination, braveness, humor, energetic attitude, resilience, optimist and firm belief from the leading hero. If only you make efforts, the society will accept you entirely. So never let anything stop you from chasing your dream or from working or playing or falling in love.

On the other hand, if someone like Brad is around us, we should learn to be more patient and friendly. Be sure not to look down upon him. Everything can be better as long as we care more about others’ feeling

and provide them with our help.
