诗歌赏析：
作者以“箭”与“歌”为意象，巧妙而含蓄的赞美了友谊的地久天长，那是一种在时光的长河中，历尽岁月沧桑却永不褪色的惺惜与高尚。
朗费罗善于用朴素的语言表达种种细腻悠长的情感，这一点尤其体现在他的短诗创作中。《箭与歌》是朗费罗歌颂友谊的一首著名抒情短诗，被选入过多种英语诗歌读本，在西方几乎家喻户晓。不过，该诗的成功之处显然不在于它的主题，而在于它的巧妙的构思。
首先，就该诗的题目而论，我们看不出诗人的任何意向性，两个名词“箭”与“歌”的并置也显得很突兀，诗人似乎有意在给读者设置一个悬念。这种悬念待到我们读完前两节时才有所缓解：在第一小节中，诗人表现了箭的意象，以自己眼睛无力捕捉飞箭的踪影来衬托一种
潜在的无奈心境；第二小节中，诗人以吐出一支歌来代替第一小节中射出的箭，意象显然进一步内化，因为歌声来自歌者的内心，然而，歌的飞颺更是眼光无法追随的，无奈的心境反而进一步加重了。我们在这两节中轻易地窥见了内在的关联，即箭与歌的相似性，由此对题目有了一个初步的认识。不过，我们依然看不透诗人的意图，难道他只是在表露自己的无奈？
第三小节则完全颠覆了我们的揣测和印象，那支射出去的眼力无捉的箭居然出现在诗人和我们的面前，好端端地插在橡树的枝干上；但更让人奇怪的是那支无形的早已散失于空气中的歌儿竟然也完好无损地存在着，原来它在诗人朋友的心间找到了美好的家园。诗人在最后颠覆我们的想象的同时也彻底荡除了前两节中的那种无奈的情绪，而该诗的主题也就水落石出。
诗人用保留在朋友心间的歌声来象征“我”与朋友之间长存的友谊，他并未直接点明自己的主题，而是让读者去细心地体会，体现了诗歌的含蓄特点，而我们上面提到的该诗在构思上设置的悬疑其实也是这种含蓄性的表现。另外，该诗的含蓄性还表现在它对多层次比喻修辞法的运用上。首先，“箭”是“歌”的喻体，诗中第一小节对“箭”的描述不过是对一个喻体的描述，其目的是引出对本体“歌”的描述。其次，“歌”又是“友谊”的喻体，对“歌”的描述是为了转喻友谊的存续状态。所以，在这首诗中，“歌”既作为本体存在，又作为喻体存在，表现出诗歌语言的丰富性与复杂性。
该诗含蓄隽永的风格与其明晰轻快的节奏相得益彰，它属于英语诗歌中常见的四音步抑扬格四行诗体，在尾韵上采用两行转韵的aabb形式，如第一小节的air，where，sight，flight，押的是典型的单韵或男韵，每一个韵音放在诗行重读的末尾音节上，好像作者在向我们倾诉和坦白自己的苦闷，但这一切又都瓦解在最后一轻一浊的音调中。无论是该诗的主题、格律还是语言，都可以说是极为朴素的，但诗人的过人之处就在于用最朴素的材料写出最让人难忘的诗歌。
