Impressions of Pride and Prejudice

I’ve read a book called Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen during this winter holidays. Jane Austen was unmarried all her life. She was born in a mid-class family and was brought up in a comfortable environment with harmonious surroundings, so there’s not too many conflicts in her sight neither in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice she talked different ideas about love and marriage through different characters.

The novel has told an interesting story: Mr. Bennet is an English gentleman with an estate in Hertfordshire. He has five unmarried daughters but no sons while his inheritance must be inherited by a male, so Mrs. Bennet has been keen to seek husband for her daughters with great enthusiasm. One day the Bennets had a new neighbor called Bingley who was a wealthy bachelor and followed be the target of Mrs. Bennet. At a ball Bingley fell in love with Jane Bennet who’s the oldest daughter of the Bennets. Bingley’s friend Darcy also came to the ball and struck the sights, many girls liked him while he thought all of them couldn’t suit his preference, including Elizabeth. Mr. Darcy always shows others a impression

of pride, having found this Elizabeth began to hate Mr. Darcy. Before long Darcy fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett(second oldest daughter in the Bennets) because of her lovely behavior, while Elizabeth is disgusted by his pride and has a prejudice about him. The official Wickham was welcomed by the villagers, and Elizabeth also took a shine to him. Wickham told Elizabeth that his father had been the steward of the Darcys. The old Darcy had regarded Wickham as his own son and showed more love to him than to Mr. Darcy. After the old Darcy died, the property should be inherited by Wickham was all deprived by Mr. Darcy, also was his pastorate. All this increased Eli’s prejudice about Mr. Darcy. At another ball Mr. Darcy invited Elizabeth to dance with him, but Eli refused him. Eli’s elder male cousin Mr. Collin came to Hertfordshire to inherit the Bennett's property by rules, he wanted to marry with one of the Bennets. Having known that Jane was already engaged with Mr. Bingley, he asked Elizabeth to marry him but was seriously rejected. At last he proposed to Charllote who was Eli’s friend. Mr. Collins was good at flattering and he got the pastorate with the help of Lady Catherine. Once his

family was invited to Rosings Garden by Lady Catherine. Elizabeth also went there with Mr. Collin and Charllote. There she met Mr. Darcy who’s Lady Catherine’s nephew. Later in a garden, Sir William told Eli about Mr. Darcy’s latest act of dissuading Mr. Bingley’s marring Jane Bennet which caused Eli’s exceedingly anger. Then Mr. Darcy came to the Collins’ and confessed his love for Elizabeth, of course he was rejected impolitely. Afterwards Mr. Darcy wrote a letter to Eli in order to remove her misunderstandings of him. Elizabeth’s uncle and aunt were also impressed by Mr. Darcy’s politeness. Gradually Eli’s prejudice of Mr. Darcy diappeared. Eventually they became couple.

The writer Jane Austen disclosed mid-class young ladies’ different ideas of marriage and love through describing the different ways in which the Bennet girls doing with their marriage problems ,and this undoubtedly shows the writer’s idea about love and marriage: it’s wrong to get married just for property, wealth and status while neither would it be without caring about those elements.Jane Austen just attached great significance to marriage through her novel by telling people that marriage should

be regarded carefully cause it is not a game you could just enjoy without prudent consideration. She also wanted to deliver information that marriage should be based on real love between the lovers. The female subject Elizabeth is a mid-class girl, and Darcy proposed to her regardless of the gap between them, but Elizabeth refused because of his pride had formed Eli’s prejudice. But later Darcy’s doings especially his change of the prideful manner eliminated Eli’s misunderstandings and prejudice about him, and Eli accepted his proposal. Those two opposite attitudes reflect female’s pursue of independent personality and equality. I think Elizabeth has personality ethic which caused her independent idea about love and marriage and in consequence she earned a happy life. Reflection of Pride and Prejudice

I’ve read it during this semester. This book, written by Jane Austen, is published by China International Broadcasting Publishing House in 2010 and has 475 pages.

Jane Austen is an English famous writer. Her compositions focus on country females’ marriage and their life. She describes her apperceive to the world with her own special perspective and humor words. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote this novel, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively.

The main idea is: Mr. Bennet has five daughters. With the daughters’ grow older, finding husbands for their daughters become Mrs. Bennet’s priority thing. Their family belongs to middle class. Mrs. Bennet is a very vulgar and power person. Their neighbor Charles Bingley is a single man who possesses lots of property. And Mrs. Bennet urges her husband to visit Bingley. In her mind, she has listed him as a son-in-law. At a ball, Mrs. Bennet tries her best to introduce her daughters to rich person actively. Bingley’s friend called Fitzwilliam Darcy, an imposing, wealthy, noble and dignified man. He becomes a focus for many beautiful girls. Mrs. Bennet’s is very eager to introduce her daughters to middle and upper class people. Her behaviors are very comical, and she is like a clown for Mr. Darcy. He feels very disgust with Mrs. Bennet’s behaviors and also looks down upon her. But these girls find Darcy’s shortcomings soon. He takes up with Elisabeth; she is Mrs. Bennet’s second daughter. Because of many complex misunderstands they missed each other. Then, Elisabeth receives a letter from Darcy and they overcome their prejudices to each other. At last they fall in love and Elisabeth’s sisters also find their true love. And the novel ends in a happy atmosphere.

In the eighteenth century, the British Empire is in the peak period. But the British social’s influence spread the whole country. For example, people’s views about snobbishness, vanity and ideas on marriage. The condition of marriage is the man should have a good social position and the woman should have good dowry. So their combination is happy to their family. Everything is based on money and social position during that time. In my opinion, it looks like marriage is a combination of money. But marital relationship is based on respect and affection but not money. The author opposes marry for money and emphasizes importance of marriage.

Austen uses irony art permeates the whole novel and throughout the development of plot. On the other hand, the language description and the figures’ psychological activity are very

picturesque. “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” The author uses humorous satire exaggerating technique, reflects Mrs. Bennet’s false and deceit. In one word, this book is an illustration of the society at that time.

In this novel, the whole structure is very precise, the figures’ characteristic are distinct and full of their own features. It shows this novel’s unique charming. On the other hand, it reflects the author’s artistic and ideological content. So it is worth reading. 本文版权归曼界森英书下载网及英文小说网共同所有

傲慢与偏见英文读后感 第五篇_《傲慢与偏见》英文观后感

Pride and prejudice

The author of this article is Jane Austen. The main idea of this article is the four door of marriage began in England in Eighteenth Century.

Hero Elizabeth Bennet was born in a rich family. There were seven people in her family. Her father her mother her four sisters and her. They had a simple and drab life. Her father was the only pillar of this family. He loved Elizabeth very much.

The elder sister was inner simplicity. She fell in love with Mr.Bingley who was good looking, gentlemanlike. He had a pleasant countenance and easy, unaffected manners.

A gleam of vanity came over the younger sister Lydia. She left no stone unturned in climbing up the top of the social status. It was miserable that she had a scotch marriage with the young officer Wickham. She almost ruined the whole family.

Charlotte is Lizie’s girl friend. Finally, she took her cousin Collins in marriage. Although they never love each other, facing the fact that she was already 27 years old. In other words, she was too old. She needs a life security. Otherwise, she would be a burden on society. In her own words: “Not everyone can afford the romantic.”

Pass through and pack the story of love certainly is Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy.

Mr.Darcy, tall person, handsome features, his manners gave a disgust which turned the tide of his popularity. He looked “the proudest and most disagreeable”. When they meet for the first time, he expressed favor to Elizabeth who was clever and kind. Elizabeth prejudiced against his arrogant posture. So they had a misunderstanding each other. Later, in order to protect the Bennets of fame, he agreed to the Wickham’s that let Lydia marry him. The he tried his best to make up for negligence to fix the relationship between Bingley and Jane. All this also gradually won Elizabeth’s heart.

The love that met the challenge of Pride and Prejudice is not worth praising. But the British was filled of hierarchy in Eighteenth Century. So the marriage and love couldn’t witness the truth of love so that it because a means to inherited wealth. But Elizabeth also insisted that marriage should not be driven by money. She came over Pride and prejudice with her lover and got the marriage she wanted. All this embodied the value of love.

In this story, Elizabeth is the representative of “Prejudice”. Mr.Darcy is the representative of “Pride”.

Perhaps that is not possible for any one. It is necessary to avoid those weaknesses which often expose a strong understanding to ridicule.

Pride and Prejudice is a weakness indeed. Prejudice—it is very easy to be driven by the subjective impression and have not correct ideas to others. No matter what, as long as you get to know more about something, you can get more objective conclusion. Pride—where there is a real superiority of mind, pride will be always under good regulation.

All above are the feeling after reading Pride and prejudice

First published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has consistently been Jane Austen'smost popular novel. It portrays life in the genteel rural society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual enlightenment between Elizabeth Bennet (whose liveliness and quick wit have often attracted readers) and the haughtyDarcy. The title Pride and Prejudice refers (among other things) to the ways in whichElizabeth and Darcy first view each other. The original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions, and was probably in the form of an exchange of letters.

Jane Austen's own tongue-in-cheek opinion of her work, in a letter to her sister Cassandra immediately after its publication, was: "Upon the whole... I am well satisfied enough. The work is rather too light, and bright, and sparkling; it wants [i.e. needs] shade; it wants to be stretched out here and there with a long chapter of sense, if it could be had; if not, of solemn specious nonsense, about something unconnected with the story: an essay on writing, a critique on Walter Scott, or the history of Buonaparté, or anything that would form a contrast and bring the reader with increased delight to the playfulness and general epigrammatism of the general style".

傲慢与偏见英文版读后感:A Book Report about Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth is such an independent woman. She is confident, knowledgeable, and has self-esteem. She was born in a poor family and her mother wants her and her sisters to marry rich men thus to make their family rich. Since they are poor, there’s no condition for the girls to learn dancing, drawing or playing the piano. Despite all of this, Elizabeth loves reading, which makes her special.

I think this has much to do with the writer Jane Austen is also a woman who loves reading and writing, though women writers are underestimated and have low social status in her time, she still insist on her interest and keep on writing. She is unfortunate because she can’t marry the man she loves and stay single for her whole life, but we are fortunate as she leaves us so many great books

which benefit us so much.

Women who have their own opinion, confidence and future plans should be respected, such kind of women set examples for all women.

Elizabeth is a represent for Jane Austen.

She is brave, she cares about her sisters. When her sister Jane is sick and stays in Mr. Bingley’s home, she goes to see her regardless of the bad weather and mudded road. Eventually she arrives exhaustingly. Her dress is dirty and her hair is cluttered, but her courage and perseverance win Mr.Darcy’s heart.

She is brave, she fights for her dignity. I like the conversation between she and Darcy.【傲慢与偏见英文读后感】

Darcy: Miss Bingley has given me credit for more than can be. The wisest and the best of men, the wisest and best of their actions, maybe rendered ridiculous by a person whose first object in life is a joke.

Elizabeth: Certainly, there are such people, but I hope I am not one of them. I hope I never ridicule what is wise or good. Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies so divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can—but these, I suppose, are precisely what you are without.

She is brave, she fights for her love and happiness. When Mr.Collins proposes to her, although her mother wants them to marry, she refuses, because she knows he is not the man who is suitable for her, and she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t want her happiness demolished by a man she doesn’t love.

I love this novel, and I admire the author and the characters in it. I love their courage and I respect their independence.

傲慢与偏见英文读后感 第七篇_pride_and_prejudice_傲慢与偏见读后感_英文

Pride and Prejudice

When I first know this book by watching the movie long before, I just considered it to be a love story. But now after reading the book myself, I find it’s far more than a love story , it’s also the illustration of the society in Britain in the 18th century.

Pride and prejudice are two weaknesses in our personal qualities。 Elizabeth and Darcy couldn’t avoid that ,either。 Darcy is a rich young man and used to be very proud, he always feels superior to the county people. His proud leave a bad impression on Elizabeth, a clever and beautiful girl who always had her own opinions. then in the course of nature, she began to have prejudice on him, and kept misunderstanding him under Wickham’s evil speaking. Finally, they reconciled and get married.

From their love story I realize that it’s stupid to judge a person just by the first impression and always have prejudice on the person who you dislike, and pride sometimes will make you far away from the people. From the book, we can see, because Darcy’s proud, he offended the girl he loved, and because of the prejudice, Elizabeth was failed to see the merits of Darcy, but fortunately, they didn’t miss each other finally. Their love was romantic and also realistic.

It’s a romantic love story indeed, but at the same time, the author Austen didn’t confined her aim just to telling love stories. In fact, in most cases, the marriage in her book was not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know a truth that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man. Just like the first sentence said in the book: “It is a truth well known to the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife.”

For instance, from the marriage between Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins, we found that their marriage totally depended on the position,

money, and the background, not the love. Most women choose the men who can satisfy their material comforts to be their husbands at that time, just like Charlotte Lucas. She married Mr. Collins although she shared no common interests with him. She didn’t love him while she married him indeed. She persuaded herself to tolerate her husband’s strange and foolish behavior, and her only comfort was her big new house and rich material life. While in my eye, it’s really unfortunate to rest hope on the material comforts for her rest life. Although sometimes it’s necessary to consider the property, position, and background in the marriage, it’s wretched to marry just for the property, position and background. Charlotte Lucas married for the possession not love, and on the other hand, Mr. Collins married her because he needed a wife, not for love, either. Their marriage seemed to be necessary but not happy. But how to maintain the marriage without love? Charlotte Lucas adopted a most efficient way----to pay no attention to her husband no matter what he did, and turn a deaf ear to what he said. Since she didn’t love him, she didn’t need to care about him, either.

The marriage of Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins represented most of the marriages at that time. Most women and men got married for money and power. The marriage had nothing to do with love. The wives were regarded as the beautiful vases for decoration. The husbands took the “vases” with them to the social occasion everyday while thinking about their career advancement in their heart and never cared about the feelings of the “vases”. And what caused this? The essential reason was the low social position of the women. The women were treated badly at that time. They had no work, and had no ability to maintain the life, so the marriage was the most efficient and popular way for them to keep their lives. Even the ladies in the upper class only played the role of a housewife.
