Love and marriage is a constant topic among human, In Pride And Prejudice, Jane Austen told a story about five marriages for us in her rational and humorous writing tone, which explains the truth of marriage: love. Marriage should be based on love, while it can’t have access to happiness when just based on money or appearance. And a deeper knowledge is needed when we start our affection . Exclude vanity and prejudice, and think about each other's moral character objectively, and we can know someone better and more exact---- only good moral character deserves real love.

The two pairs lovers in the book, Elizabeth and Darcy, Jane and Bingley, mainly based their marriage on love and excellent moral character, though thinking about looks and family background to small extent. Elizabeth and Darcy's love story is most relished especially. During twisting journey from they hated each other to finally fell in love and got married, Elizabeth and Darcy gradually got to know each other, removed prejudice, and discard meaningless so-called face. Eventually they realized and fell in love with the virtues of each other in readers’ expectation and wishes. Furthermore that Elizabeth refused Darcy's courtship before accepting, still further show her defiance of marriages without love. On the contrary, Charlotte, Elizabeth's friend, who thinks she is not beautiful besides having no money, chose to combine with stupid and shallow Collins out of economic considerations, and lived a ensured but dull marriage life. Similarly, Elizabeth's sister, Lydia, as well as her father's marriage is unfortunate, for they were confused by the beauty of appearance, while ignoring the moral character. They would be bound to regret for their choice all their life .

All in all, we must be for love alignment in the face of marriage; and we must will be subject to moral character in the face of love; and we must be objective and fair in the face of judging the moral character.

First published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has consistently been Jane Austen'smost popular novel. It portrays life in the genteel rural society of the day, and tells of the initial misunderstandings and later mutual enlightenment between Elizabeth Bennet (whose liveliness and quick wit have often attracted readers) and the haughtyDarcy. The title Pride and Prejudice refers (among other things) to the ways in whichElizabeth and Darcy first view each other. The original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions, and was probably in the form of an exchange of letters.

Jane Austen's own tongue-in-cheek opinion of her work, in a letter to her sister Cassandra immediately after its publication, was: "Upon the whole... I am well satisfied enough. The work is rather too light, and bright, and sparkling; it wants [i.e. needs] shade; it wants to be stretched out here and there with a long chapter of sense, if it could be had; if not, of solemn specious nonsense, about something unconnected with the story: an essay on writing, a critique on Walter Scott, or the history of Buonaparté, or anything that would form a contrast and bring the reader with increased delight to the playfulness and general epigrammatism of the general style".

A Book Report about Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth is such an independent woman. She is confident, knowledgeable, and has self-esteem. She was born in a poor family and her mother wants her and her sisters to marry rich men thus to make their family rich. Since they are poor, there’s no condition for the girls to learn dancing, drawing or playing the piano. Despite all of this, Elizabeth loves reading, which makes her special.

I think this has much to do with the writer Jane Austen is also a woman who loves reading and writing, though women writers are underestimated and have low social status in her time, she still insist on her interest and keep on writing. She is unfortunate because she can’t marry the man she loves and stay single for her whole life, but we are fortunate as she leaves us so many great books

which benefit us so much.

Women who have their own opinion, confidence and future plans should be respected, such kind of women set examples for all women.

Elizabeth is a represent for Jane Austen.

She is brave, she cares about her sisters. When her sister Jane is sick and stays in Mr. Bingley’s home, she goes to see her regardless of the bad weather and mudded road. Eventually she arrives exhaustingly. Her dress is dirty and her hair is cluttered, but her courage and perseverance win Mr.Darcy’s heart.【傲慢与偏见读后感英文】

She is brave, she fights for her dignity. I like the conversation between she and Darcy.

Darcy: Miss Bingley has given me credit for more than can be. The wisest and the best of men, the wisest and best of their actions, maybe rendered ridiculous by a person whose first object in life is a joke.

Elizabeth: Certainly, there are such people, but I hope I am not one of them. I hope I never ridicule what is wise or good. Follies and nonsense, whims and inconsistencies so divert me, I own, and I laugh at them whenever I can—but these, I suppose, are precisely what you are without.【傲慢与偏见读后感英文】

She is brave, she fights for her love and happiness. When Mr.Collins proposes to her, although her mother wants them to marry, she refuses, because she knows he is not the man who is suitable for her, and she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t want her happiness demolished by a man she doesn’t love.

I love this novel, and I admire the author and the characters in it. I love their courage and I respect their independence.

Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

Pride and Prejudice is one of the representative works of Jane Austen, first published in 1813. Though the story's setting is characteristically turn-of-the-19th-century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books. Although Austen was only 21 when she wrote “Pride and Prejudice”, her sharp observation of social lives makes the style of this book surprisingly mature and lively.

Key words: Pride and prejudice, love, money, marriage

When I first know this book by watching the movie long before, I just considered it to be a love story. But now after reading the book myself, I find it’s far more than a love story , it’s also the illustration of the society in Britain in the 18th century.

Pride and prejudice are two weaknesses in our personal qualities。 Elizabeth and Darcy couldn’t avoid that ,either。 Darcy is a rich young man and used to be very proud, he always feels superior to the county people. His proud leave a bad impression on Elizabeth, a clever and beautiful girl and who always had her own opinions. then in the course of nature, she began to have prejudice on him, and kept misunderstanding him under Wickham’s evil speaking. Finally, they reconciled and get married.

From their love story I realize that it’s stupid to judge a person just by the first impression and always have prejudice on the person who you dislike, and pride sometimes will make you far away from the people. From the book, we can see, because Darcy’s proud, he offended the girl he loved, and because of the prejudice, Elizabeth was failed to see the merits of Darcy, but fortunately, they didn’t miss each other finally. Their love was romantic and also realistic.

It’s a romantic love story indeed, but at the same time, the author Austen didn’t confined her aim just to telling love stories. In fact, in most cases, the marriage in her book was not the result of love, but the result of economic needs. After reading this book, I know a truth that a poor woman must be in need of a husband, a wealthy man. Just like the first sentence said in the book: “It is a truth well known to the world that an unmarried man in possession of a large fortune must be in need of a wife.”

For instance, from the marriage between Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins, we found that their marriage totally depended on the position, money, and the background, not the love. Most women choose the men who can satisfy their material comforts to be their husbands at that time, just like Charlotte Lucas. She married Mr. Collins although she shared no common interests with him. She didn’t love him while she married him indeed. She persuaded herself to tolerate her husband’s strange and foolish behavior, and her only comfort was her big new house and rich material life.

While in my eye, it’s really unfortunate to rest hope on the material comforts for her rest life. Although sometimes it’s necessary to consider the property, position, and background in the marriage, it’s wretched to marry just for the property, position and background. Charlotte Lucas married for the possession not love, and on the other hand, Mr. Collins married her because he needed a wife, not for love, either. Their marriage seemed to be necessary but not happy. But how to maintain the marriage without love? Charlotte Lucas adopted a most efficient way----to pay no attention to her husband no matter what he did, and turn a deaf ear to what he said. Since she didn’t love him, she didn’t need to care about him, either.

The marriage of Charlotte Lucas and Mr. Collins represented most of the marriages at that time. Most women and men got married for money and power. The marriage had nothing to do with love. The wives were regarded as the beautiful vases for decoration. The husbands took the “vases” with them to the social occasion everyday while thinking about their career advancement in their heart and never cared about the feelings of the “vases”. And what caused this? The essential reason was the low social position of the women. The women were treated badly at that time. They had no work, and had no ability to maintain the life, so the marriage was the most efficient and popular way for them to keep their lives. Even the ladies in the upper class only played the role of a housewife.

The man treat GRE at event in one's life with punishing, Demonstrate different attitudes to the love question of the marriage of young girl of the family origin of middle class of villages and towns, Thus reflected authors oneself;s marriage view: It is wrong to get married for the property, money and position; Get married and does not consider that above-mentioned factors are unwise too . So, she objects to getting married for money , objecting to regarding the marriage as a trifling matter . She emphasizes the importance of the ideal marriage , and regard men and women;s emotion as the foundation stone which concludes the ideal marriage .

Elizabeth watches conducting oneself in society and a series of behavior of reaching the west personally afterwards, See he change the proud conceited expressions of passing by, dispel misunderstanding and prejudice to him, Thus concluded the happy marriage with him.

Lady Catherine, a poor mother

“Pride and Prejudice” is a movie about love. Well, Lady Catherine impressed me very much in this play. As a mother, she is admiring.

She has much money and connections. For the sake of that, she looks down upon everything, especially the poor. Therefore, she is extremely disgusted with Elizabeth’s arrival. In fact, she has nothing that deserve us to like her. However, when talking about her daughter, she is always kind and merciful. She loves her daughter as most mothers do. Maybe why she asks Elizabeth to play the piano is just because of the regret to Anne. Moreover, she is proud of her daughter. She thinks that Anne is perfect expect healthy. Then when heard of Elizabeth and Darcy have met each other, she has a glimpse at Elizabeth with a meaningful eye contact. Undoubtly, she has been conscious of the affection between Elizabeth and Darcy. So she shouted insults at Elizabeth as she can. This is the nature of a mother. They always want to tidy all the obstacles out for their child. She knows that Darcy is a perfect choice for Anne’s husband. She has almost been sure of Darcy being her son- in- law without Elizabeth’s appearance. In this case, we can understand why she resents Elizabeth so much.

Months later, lady Catherine hears about the story of Elizabeth and Darcy. To ensure that, she go to the town regardless of the storm and heavy rain. The plot is unforgettable for me. Lady Catherine looks dirty and untidy. She looks like an another woman compared with the former image, just a mother struggling for baby’s happiness. Well , the Catherine in this screen is so touching. Of course, she ends up with a failing ending. Lady Catherine is so overbearing at first, who loses her own dignity just for daughter’s happiness ultimately.

Well, at last what I want to say is that, although Lady Catherine is not

accepted by most of us, in my eyes, she is a both poor and great mother as well.
